Let’s be honest; strobing, highlight, and illuminator are all HUGE trends right now. Every makeup company is coming out with their own highlight or strobing kit. And every makeup lover is trying to find the very best one. However, some of those highlighters can get a little pricey and I don’t have an ever fleeing makeup fund (I wish) so whenever I find a high quality and low cost product, I’m thrilled. Enter NYX cosmetics. Time and time again I am impressed with their quality and LOVE the low price tags. So naturally, when I saw that NYX had this strobe of genius illuminator palette, I snatched it up ASAP.
First impressions, the packaging is nothing special but it works just fine. You can see all the shades through the window on the top, like most NYX palettes. The shades all look really nice inside the tray, and there is a nice variety of colors to choose from.
All of these shades swatch pretty nicely, though it did take a few swipes to get this amount of color payoff. As you can see from these swatches, these highlights are a little powdery, especially the 4 smaller trays. I have experienced some fallout from these shades but all in all, if you use a good primer and setting spray they last you the full day.
There is so much you can do with this palette, I end up using most of the shades on a fairly regular basis. What I love about this palette is that the shades blend together beautifully. For example, I love using the middle bottom shade blended with the fat right top shade as blush and then blend together the two other bottom shades as highlight.
In these pictures, I did the blending combinations that I mentioned above then, used the shade second to the left on the top on the tip of my nose and cupid’s bow for added highlight.
All in all, I think that this palette is well worth the price, despite the slight fallout and powderiness. It’s a great introduction to strobing and playing around with highlight for the first time and I definitely recommend giving it a shot!
